The Cottles Club presents Exeter Jazz Orchestra and Will Paley

20 September @ 8:00 am - 10:00 pm

Free
The Cottles Club is going to bring great jazz to the middle of Devon. Based just on the outskirts of Okehampton at Betty Cottles Inn we will be putting on the best Local, South West and national jazz talent.
First up on 20th September we have Will Paley. Will is a Saxophonist, Woodwind Doubler and Arranger based in Exeter, Devon. He performs regularly around the UK and has played at some of the country’s most prestigious venues including; The Barbican Centre, St Martins in the Fields, The Vortex, Spice of Life, The 100 Club, Ronnie Scott’s, The Ivy, Kings College Cambridge, Westminster Abbey and 10 Downing Street.
Experienced in Jazz, Pop and Classical genres, William holds a Masters in Jazz Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama; studying under Malcom Edmonstone, Martin Hathaway, Christian Forshaw, Scott Stroman, Jean Toussaint, Carlos Lopez-Real and Trevor Tomkins. Since graduating William has led a busy freelance career in performance, education & arranging in and around the London area and has recently moved to the South West to begin a new chapter in his career.
As an arranger and musical director he has written scores for a wide range of ensembles from chamber jazz, big band to full orchestra with rhythm section and is always on the look out for new projects.
William finds it incredibly important to share his passion for music and to inspire musicians of all levels and backgrounds; equipping them with the necessary tools to be the best musician they can be. He is an experienced woodwind tutor and can provide one-to-one lessons on saxophone, clarinet & flute, ensemble coaching and larger workshops. He has worked alongside the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and The Musician’s Company Yeoman Organisation, and now runs the Exeter Jazz Orchestra
Our second set on 20th September 2024 is from the fabulous EXETER JAZZ ORCHESTRA. Exeter Jazz Orchestra is one of Devon’s premier Big Bands, seamlessly blending old school toe-tapping classics from the likes of Count Basie, Glenn Miller & Benny Goodman to the more modern belting beats of Gordon Goodwin, Thad Jones & Buddy Rich. They are a band not to be missed!
Exeter Jazz Orchestra on how they were established in July 2021. They began rehearsals apart due to Covid restrictions and then by the end of July they had their 1st full rehearsal. It was great to bring so many musicians together, especially after the pandemic. Will, as the musical director, started the motions of bringing it all together and has a great mix of players. From professional musicians to young aspiring musicians and to musicians that play as a hobby. Really creates a fun environment for all, yet results in an explosive big band sound.
You really don’t want to miss this!
